Generic name for crestor is rosuvastatin. It is administered orally and is used for lowering blood cholesterol levels. It is one of the most important drugs classified under HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors which are more commonly known as statins.

Crestor is prescribed for lowering blood total cholesterol and tri-glyceride levels. It is also used for turning down the risks of stroke and heart attacks.

This drug lower cholesterol levels by inhibiting a major enzyme known as HMG-CoA reductase which is involved in hepatic (liver) synthesis of cholesterol. Crestor not only lowers blood total cholesterol but also blood LDL cholesterol levels. LDL also known as bad type of cholesterol increases the risks of coronary heart diseases.
